DGS is very proud of our involvement in this very unique and specialised area of construction. It is a very exciting and challenging field to explore and discover new methods and skills in order to provide these secure and safe environments for the amazing creatures that inhabit them. These projects have set the benchmark for others to follow. Our experience and expertise in zoological, aquarium and marine exhibits is matched by very few. Importantly, we are acutely aware of the environmental needs of captive creatures as well as the special needs of those that show, keep or tend them. We have a great love and passion for all marine creatures.
Sydney Aquarium, Darling Harbour
A world class attraction was to be created at Darling Harbour and the Aquarium operators approached DGS to undertake this unique and highly specialised project. In looking for the most suitable contractors they discovered our experience with all things aquatic and knew they had the right firm onboard. At the time, these Marine Oceanariums held the largest volumes of water in the world, each holding 1,350,000 litres. This job was completed under a combination of Project and Construction Management and DGS was directly responsible for the completion of every trade required, including the structure, filtration and life support systems, acrylic panels, moving walkway, water features, artificial features, seascaping, lighting and special effects. The two oceanariums would hold all manner of aquatic life, not least of all the magnificent sharks and large stingrays. We also were engaged to complete various sections of fitout works within the land based part of the Aquarium. A truly superb that and fascinating buildings that attracts tens of thousands of visitors each year.
