Significant Landmark Projects DGS having been identified for their considerable construction experience were engaged to undertake projects of significant cultural and historic value particularly around Sydney Harbour. Many unique skills were utilised during these jobs to ensure the authenticity was retained when recreating heritage workmanship. A selection of thes projects include:
Hyde Park Barracks, Sydney
This historic building required alterations and additions including works the restoration of the famous “archaeology” room. Ag old craftsman skills were employed during this delicate process of displaying the almost 200 year old artefacts and buildings.
Kiosk & Restaurant, Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney
The historic building in the heart of the Botanical Gardens was ruined by fire and DGS were required to complete works for the new restaurant and kiosk while preserving the original stone facades to the west side of the building. Having to undertake this work in an environmentally delicate area while the gardens remained open to the public took extensive planning and onsite management.
Conservatorium of Music, Sydney
The famous Conservatorium of Music has it’ s original extensions completed over 30 years ago and again DGS was selected to complete this work to one of Sydney’s most well known heritage buildings.
Taronga Zoological Park Entrance, Sydney
This iconic Sydney landmark was in need of some ‘TLC’ and DGS undertook to complete the upgrading works along with a new seal wave pool at the rear. Heritage tradesmen were bought in to carry out specialised plastering and copper roofing works.
Young Street Terraces, Young Street, Sydney
These almost 200 year old terraces that originally housed nurses was in a dilapidated state and required extensive internal works to bring it back to a habitable state. To comply with the various heritage requirements DGS was needed to source original timber species for upgrading the windows, doors and stairways as well as performing the works using original tradesmen’s tools and methods.
Lands Building, Bridge Street, Sydney
The highly significant heritage Sydney building required extensive roofing upgrades. Work comprised of new copper roofs, roof plumbing, and flashings to the domed roofs. New slated roofs and extensive repairs to the stone parapets. Specialised craftsmen with their unique skills were resourced in order to carry out this work which was required to be done in “heritage” fashion with the use of today’s modern methods and fasteners. Slate was imported from England.

Ministry for the Arts (Former Earth Exchange Building) – The Rocks, Sydney
This Heritage building in Hickson Road the rocks required DGS to complete demolition of some recent tenants partitions and then proceed to upgrade to restore the internal sections bak to their original conditions as well as provide some modern enhancements.
